Trail and Mountain Running Skills and Excursions

And we’re back! After a successful first year (and crazy awesome kick-off dance party), we’re back with the Second Annual Sky Fest Mountain Running Festival! We’ll be offering two action packed days of specialized clinics and group runs, geared towards the safe and efficient use of our local trails and runnable mountains.

Event Series Featuring Pro Athletes and Photographers

Big days out on the trail will be followed with evening socials and stimulating presentations. Mingle with like minded foot-powered enthusiasts while enjoying stimulating discussions with expert athletes and professional photographers.

The Clinics

All clinics and tours will be lead by Altus Mountain Guides and joined by local pros. Guides of the highest calibre available to get you dialled and ready for your next running adventure!

Clinics run Saturday, Sunday and range from Introductory to Advanced. Unless specified, all clinics will take place on trails around Squamish.

Saturday Clinics

Ultrarunning - First steps

Introductory - 6 hours

This clinic will kickoff indoors, where we will break down the specifics of how to start planning to tackle your first ultra race (42km +) and review the steps to consider when training so the experience is both attainable and enjoyable.  Next, we hit the trails to tackle pacing, gear, and tactics for a successful ultra race.

Running Photography with Guy Fattal

Intermediate - 8 hours

Get out for a day on the trails, dialling in your photography skills under the tutelage of renowned professional photographer Guy Fattal

Climbing Skills for Running

Advanced - 8 hours

Arm yourself to tackle anything the mountain trails can serve you.  Learn how to read steep rock and how to safely climb vertical terrain.  This clinic will cover vertical rock safety, how to set up a top rope, belaying, rappelling, and climbing techniques.  A fantastic learning opportunity for anyone seeking runnable peaks or want to explore a new hobby!

$75 plus GST  - Saturdy, August 8th

Fast Pack Overnight

Advanced - 2 days

You've mastered the in-a-day missions and it's time to start thinking about how to stay out there a bit longer. Ready to dabble in the dorky world of ulra-light gear? We'll meet in town to sort gear and a trip plan before heading out to cover some ground and sleep under the stars. We'll tinker with carrying gear, cooking on a single burner, making shelter and dialling in sleeping systems. The next morning we'll continue on and back to the valley!

$310 plus GST  - Saturday, August 8th

20km Alpine Group Run

Intermediate - 4 hours

Join one of our experienced guides in tackling a local runnable peak.  Expect to cover over 1000m of vertical of steep trail, snow, and rock to bag a summit.  Must be a comfortable runner!

9Scrambling Skills for Running

Intermediate - 8 hours

Take the top-down approach to the skills you need for mountain running.  As we push further with our running, often the required skills for navigating more advanced terrain can change without our being prepared.  This course serves to teach runners to understand mountain hazards, and to navigate rock and snow safely while moving fast.

$75 plus GST - Sunday, August 9th

*Whistler lift pass will be required

Women's Alpine Running Skills

Intermediate - 8 hours

Summit a local mountain with a gang of fellow female phenoms, learning the skills to keep you safe while you get up and out in new, wild terrain.  Get rad with your ladies while covering navigation, pacing, mountain hazard identification, scrambling skills, and gear.

$50 plus GST - Sunday, August 9th

Navigation Skills for Running

Introductory - 6 hours

Learn the alpine running essentials with a gang of like-minded foot-powered fanatics!  We'll give you the rundown on gear, trip planning, route finding, and safe ascending and descending techniques.

$50 plus GST- Sunday, August 9th

20km Group Run

Intermediate - 4 hours

Join one of our experienced guides in tackling a local runnable peak.  Expect to cover over 1000m of vertical of steep trail, snow, and rock to bag a summit.  Must be a comfortable runner!
