Deciding the Best Multi-Pitch Climb

*Multi-pitch climbing is multiple legs of climbing up a rock face. Each "pitch" is between 100- 200 feet long. The average multi-pitch route ranges from 300- 1,500 feet long and can be accomplished in 8 hours; however, we do offer half- day options for multi-pitch climbing.

Length: 1 Day and longer

Prerequisites: Previous gym or outdoor climbing experience at a minimum 5.6.

Highlight Climbs: Skywalker 5.8, Calculus Crack 5.8, Squamish Buttress 5.10a, Angeles Crest 5.10c and the Grand Wall 5.11a

Season: All Summer Long or anytime the rock is dry!

Is This for You

The number one question we get from our guests is: “Am I ready for a multi-pitch climb?” 99% of the time the answer is YES!  Our Guides' job is literally to push our guests’ ability.  So if you have minimum climbing experience and an eagerness for a day of adventure, we can make the day for you!

  • Previous rock climbing experience, in the gym or outside
  • Have top roped 5.6 as a minimum
  • Fitness to be moving for a minimum of 3 hours
  • Can hike 1 hour in gentle uphill terrain
  • Likes being outside

The week had been rainy and the Chief was slow to dry, but we waited it out and got a nice multi-pitch and some top-rope in any way. Altus was good about communicating and rescheduling as the weather constantly changed. We'll definitely climb with them again next time we're in Squamish.

We hire a guide on a 2:1 ratio to go through some skills we'd been meaning to practice before doing some multi-pitch routes by ourselves. We emailed our guide (Tucker) the night before with a list of the skills and he worked through them in the course of the day, giving explanations about what works best and why. One of the Squamish rock OG's, and an absolute must do for a competent 5.10 climber.  13 pitches (depending on how you climb it) of engaging crack climbing up a aesthetic alpine like to the summit of the Squamish Chief

Making a booking

Greater than 14 days from start date

  • 20% deposit is required to secure your guides and or trip. Remaining trip cost is due 14 days

Less than 14 days from start date

  • Trip cost must be paid in full

*Subject to change based on particular trip

Cancellations by Altus Mountain Guides

Upon confirming your booking we guarantee the trip departure. If we cancel a trip for any reason prior to the start date a full refund will be provided. If we are forced to cancel a trip for any reason after the trip start date, a full refund for the unused portion of the trip will be provided. Reasons for Altus canceling a trip include, but are not limited to: unsafe conditions, guide injury, and/or guide illness.

Trip cancellation insurance

Upon confirmation of your trip Altus Mountain Guides enters into financial obligation and cannot refund payment or release you from your contractual obligation except for condition stated below in “Cancellations” Therefore in an effort to avoid unnecessary cancellation penalties, cancellation insurance is strongly recommended in the event you can not participate or if your trip is interrupted “for any reason”. This is available from most travel companies. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding our policy or obtaining insurance.

Medical/Evacuation Insurance

All participants must have personal internationally accepted medical insurance for all activities pertaining to your trip that also includes emergency rescue and evacuation. With your insurance please ensure you will be covered for “roped travel” if booking a technical trip.
