Intro Mountaineering Course


Our Mountaineering courses are designed to challenge you and give you the skills to travel safely in hazardous terrain. With plenty hands on training in the field and the appropriate student/instructor ratios for each course, the learning curve increases dramatically. We chose the best locations specific to the demands of the course. Join us for Introduction to Mountaineering, Advanced Alpinism or Neige, Glace et Mixed and mixed climbing. Description

This long weekend mountaineering course initiates you into the world of Mountaineering through a development of climbing skill sets. We start with the basics at out local cliffs and progress through the weekend to attempt a high alpine summit. For the neophyte, there’s safety in numbers so this course runs at a 4:1 student to instructor ratio.

Cost

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet your instructor and review equipment for the week. Head out to the local cliffs and learn basic knot craft, belaying, rappelling and climbing technique.

Day 2: Approach and set camp in an Alpine zone. Snow School: ice axe use, snow travel and self arrest. Mountain hazard assessment and mitigation, Glacier travel, Crevasse rescue and ice technique. Route finding, planning, and map use.

Day 3: Summit day! You pick the objective, plan the route and set the track. Review and pack camp, descent back to town. Debrief with cocktails!
